This page will be a bit of an experiment as well as a guide into the vast world of archetypes. While I am not an expert - I have no degree, and I haven't even read Jung's work - I have had numerous psychologists tell me that my understanding of archetypes surpasses that of many of their colleagues.

Journey Possibility 1: The Uninterrupted Path or The Path of the Paragon

Case Study: Clark Kent / Superman (Man of Steel version specifically, but most interations of Superman will fit)
Case Study: I Am Mother (2019 film)

  • The Path of the Paragon is an uninterrrupted World Weaver's Journey.
  • From leaving The “Perfect” World - with proper guidance - all the way through to Permission of Happiness.
  • A Death of Innocence obviously happens, but it's (most likely) slow and steady and, again, there is guidance and mentorship along the path.
  • THIS is the path that parents should strive for their children to take - not a path of protection that makes weak adults and not a path so harsh that makes broken adults.

Journey Possibility 2: Potential World Weaver to Potential Soul Diver

  • The “Perfect” World
  • A severe Death of Innocence that causes emotional shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World

Journey Possibility 3: Potential World Weaver to Soul Diver

  • The “Perfect” World
  • The Death of Innocence
  • Denial of the Broken Glasses
  • Locked in Anger or Fear
  • Mirror-Hop to the Soul Diver's Journey - The Neverending War loop

Most Horror films would fit this Journey motif. They are the "Dive Into the Deep" with no guidance or awareness as to what it happening and virtually none of "The Witch's Forge" to remake the person into the Adventurer they need to be.

Journey Possibility 4: Potential Soul Diver to Potential World Weaver

Case Study - Riley (Inside-Out)

  • The "Mundane" World
  • Call of the Sea
  • A short bout with Noose of the Pretender
  • The Destroyer, The Healer
  • The Dive Into the Deep
  • The Witch's Forge
  • If caught early enough and if there is proper guidance the Trauma may be mitigated before full-fledged emotional shutdown.
  • Mirror-Hop back to The “Perfect” World, but with Wisdom and Understanding in place of Innocence. This will, hopefully, set our reborn Potential Heroine back onto the Path of the Paragon.

Journey Possibility 5: Potential World Weaver to Potential Soul Diver to Death

  • The “Perfect” World
  • The Death of Innocence
  • A severe Death of Innocence that causes emotional shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World
  • Call of the Sea
  • Noose of the Pretender
  • The Call is never answered. Soul death and/or literal Death. This is a Tragedy story.

Journey Possibility 6: Potential World Weaver to Soul Diver

  • The “Perfect” World
  • The Death of Innocence
  • A severe Death of Innocence that causes emotional shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World
  • The complete Soul Diver's Journey from Call of the Sea through to Tao of the Overlord.
  • This could be called The Path of the Iconoclast.

Journey Possibility 7: Indoctrinated World Weaver to Villain - The Idealist

Case Study - Anakin Skywalker (Star Wars Original Trilogy and Prequels)

  • The “Perfect” World
  • Possible Death of Innocence - If so, possibly contrived by some specific Deal With the Fae
  • Deal With the Fae - The Potential World Weaver is raised or found/groomed in an Ideology that they fully immerse their identity into.
  • Leaving the Waters
  • The Brilliant City - Though, the Indoctrinated World Weaver will likely view the City as "Lost" and "Decadent" and in need of major reformation
  • Victim or Chosen One - The Indoctrinated World Weaver is locked into “Chosen One” mode and all of their energy and time is spent promoting and protecting the Ideology. Any “Death of Innocence” becomes cracks in the ideological armour and threatens to break the World Weaver. Villainy is likely, emotional shutdown is imminent, only monumental effort or a Rescuer (usually a Soul Diver) can break the cycle.

Journey Possibility 8: Potential World Weaver to Unwitting Villain - Disciple/Slave

Case Study - Sorsha (Willow)

  • The “Perfect” World
  • Deal With the Fae - The Fae is likely a kidnapper or wants something the Potential World Weaver has access to.
  • Leaving the Waters
  • The Brilliant City
  • Victim or Chosen One - Since there has been no Death of Innocence, our Potential World Weaver is easily corruptible since they are so trusting. They may never discover who they are because all of their identity and trust is wrapped up in their Oppressor or Devourer.

Journey Possibility 9: World Weaver to Villain - The Devourer

Case Study - Abuela Alma (Encanto)

  • The World Weaver's Journey from The “Perfect” World all the way through to Family Life or Hermit Life
  • Our beloved World Weaver becomes stuck in comfort, complacency, and control. She doesn’t want change, she doesn’t want more hardship. She wants safety and security and she forces everyone in her life to remain in that same safety and security.

Journey Possibility 10: Potential Soul Diver to Villain - The Zealot

  • The “Perfect” World
  • Death of Innocence
  • Emotional Shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World
  • Call of the Sea
  • Instead of answering the Inner Call to the depths of the Soul, our Potential Soul Diver answers a Call from the Outside - generally someone else’s Call and someone else’s purpose. The Potential Soul Diver runs to Ideology and will protect that Ideology at all costs, regardless of who gets hurt.
  • This is essentially a Mirror-Hop to a constant Victim or Chosen One loop.

Journey Possibility 11: Soul Diver to Villain - The Anarchist

  • The “Perfect” World
  • The Death of Innocence - A severe Death of Innocence that causes emotional shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World
  • The Soul Diver's Journey from The Call of the Sea through to The Neverending War.
  • From here, our Soul Diver gets stuck in Anger. They just want to fight and fight and fight. They blame their Trauma and the outside world for all of their problems. They fall down an unending pit of Destructive Nihilism (Nihilism in and of itself is not bad). The Anarchist tries to destroy everything, but most likely ends up destroying themselves in the process.

Journey Possibility 12: Soul Diver to Villain - The Tyrant

  • The “Perfect” World
  • The Death of Innocence - A severe Death of Innocence that causes emotional shutdown
  • The "Mundane" World
  • The Soul Diver's Journey from The Call of the Sea through to Bliss Within the Castle.
  • The Soul Diver doesn’t want to leave the Depths of Love. He loves it there. He’s the Hero there. Most likely he’s been made King of the place. He considers the outside world to be dangerous. He doesn’t trust it and he won’t allow anyone to leave his kingdom and explore.

Journey Possibility 13: Rescued or Redeemed Disciple, Slave, Zealot back to World Weaver

Stuck in a Victim or Chosen One loop, but something happens to break them out of their slavery or ideology - generally this will involve Love from a Soul Diver. The Soul Diver will choose to lay down his weapon rather than continue the fight.

Journey Possibility 14: Idealist to Anarchist

When the Ideology breaks, nothing is left in the Idealist’s mind except for Destructive Nihilism. It’s an instant and usually fatal plunge directly into Anarchy. Love from a World Weaver can prevent the Anarchist’s imminent destruction. The World Weaver chooses to embrace rather than kill.

Journey Possibility 15: The Reset - Soul Diver back to Potential World Weaver

Case Study - Barbara from I Kill Giants

  • While this may seem like a bad thing as it kind of sounds like back tracking, it’s really, really good.
  • The "Mundane" World through to Bliss Within the Castle
  • Abdicating the Throne Mirror-Hops to Leaving the Waters
  • This would essentially happen to a young person who has come through a fairly traumatic event, had an emotional shutdown and taken a few years to come to terms with it. However, they aren’t really old enough to become a mentor. The mirror-hop resets them back onto the path they would have taken had the trauma not happened.

Journey Possibility 16: Potential World Weaver to The Reaver (an extremely dangerous and full-blown Nihilistic version of The Anarchist)

Case Study - Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (I HATED this movie so much. I wanted Pooh and Piglet dead. They were horrific. However, the movie taught me how dangerous this archetype is.)

When The "Perfect" World breaks, the Potential World Weaver is immediately thrust into a Neverending War loop. If their Fear consumes them, they get lost in Bitterness and Anger and cause nothing but suffering and pain for others.
